Toastmasters provides a supportive, fail-safe environment to learn and practice the art of public speaking. At our club, there are five mains way how your education on public speaking takes place.
1. Pathways
Pathways is a self-paced training program created by Toastmasters International. Members access the system online and learn various aspects of public speaking, communications and leadership through an interactive, multi-media step-by-step basis.
2. Speeches
Each project within Pathways typically culminates in the member making a speech at the club. At TMCS, speaking slots are available for booking once a month and members can make 1 booking at each time, subject to availability. In addition to learning through making speeches yourself, you will also learn through watching other members make their speeches.
3. Evaluations
Every time you make a speech, an experienced member at the club will provide an oral and written evaluation of your performance. The evaluator will assess your performance, point out areas where you excelled, and suggest areas for future improvement in a friendly, collegial tone.
4. Mentors
New members will be assigned a senior member who will serve as their mentor. The mentor will help the new member navigate their Toastmasters journey and provide guidance, feedback and suggestions for improvement.
5. Workshops
From time to time, the club will organize workshops by club seniors or external presenters. These workshops will typically be focused on developing various public speak or communication skillsets that members would likely to be interested in.
