Continual learning

8th September 2009

Review of 7 Sept meeting
Jerren Lai hosted the evening’s programme as Toastmaster of the Evening.

Club President Jeffrey Williams spoke on this evening’s theme: continual learning. Which zone are you in? A comfort zone? Panic zone? Challenging zone? It’s good to recognise the zone you are in and step up.

In a Toastmaster’s journey, it may be a challenge to deliver your projects or to take up an evaluator role, but it is a rewarding experience. Have you challenged yourself lately?

A visit to Japan and signing a petition
A new, and our youngest member, Jasmine Vahdati showed everyone how Table Topics is done as she spoke about her enlightening visit to a Japanese temple. Congratulations Jasmine!

Meanwhile, Teo Kim Meng certainly persuaded the audience to get them to sign a petition in his ‘Speak to Persuade’ project.

Winners for the night-
Table Topics: Jasmine Vahdati
Prepared speeches: Teo Kim Meng
Evaluator: Soh Swee Kiat

We had two members completing their Project 9. That’s 1 more project to achieving CC! We also had a member embarking on his first Advanced Project. Congratulations to all.

A guest shared that public speaking is like singing. When it comes to singing it’s not just your voice. It’s your passion and enthusiasm.

See you at our next meetings. Save the dates –
There will be no chapter meeting on 21 September due to the Hari Raya Puasa holiday.

28th September, 6.45 pm Speech Marathon at the SMU School of Economics mini-theatre.

5th October at Sheraton. There willl be a special talk on how to give evaluations at 6.30 pm. Not to be missed. The official meeting programme starts at 7.15 pm.
