Good habits are the key to success.

“We are what we do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit” says Aristotle. TMCS President Jeffrey Williams spoke about the value of Toastmasters which money can’t buy, at our first outdoor meeting at the YMCA poolside.

Toastmaster of the evening, Teo Kim Meng made sure the evening’s programme was in good order. TMCS members and guests called the ‘TMCS hotline’ in tackling table topics led by Table Topics Master, Jerren Lai.

Toastmaster Leong Chee Tung provided the evening’s entertainment with a magic show and his out-of-this-world mind-reading talent!

There will be a cost of $25 for guests attending this event which includes a buffet dinner. There will be no cost for members.

Ng Cher Kim, CC ALS hosted the meeting as Toastmaster of the Evening (TME) with good cheer while Table Topics Master Jacky Lim, ACB CL, led the audience in exploring ‘The Soul of Songs’. We were also honoured to have Area D5 Governor Sournya Pati, ACB ALB install the new Executive Committee.

Special congratulations to Ian Lim who rounded up his 10th speech, clinching the title of Competent Communicator (CC). Ian’s smooth delivery and perseverance is an inspiration to many new Toastmasters embarking on their journey.

Jeffrey Williams, CC CL, President for 2009/10, in his opening speech, spoke about the theme for the night, ‘Make Members Matter’ and invited feedback from guests at the end of the evening.

One guest said that before attending the meeting, his perception of Toastmasters was that of a speech training workshop where the trainer ‘lectures’ from the floor. He was pleasantly surprised to find that on the contrary, everyone is engaged and participative at Toastmasters. Another guest noted that you can meet many interesting people and learn so much from the diversified knowledge pool - from how to manage your boss to how not to irk a woman from last night’s meeting alone. Indeed, there is no shortage of interesting people at Toastmasters!

Our next chapter meeting will be held on 20th July at YMCA, One Orchard Road, 10th floor rooftop by the poolside. It will be a night of entertainment, fellowship and of course, prepared speeches!
