Make time for things you love by Jim Cathart

29th March 2009

Hi everyone,

I was doing my daily personal learning session recently when I decided to play one of Jim Cathart’s eLearning video. It was called “Make time for things you love.”

To try summartize his video in a few sentences may not do justice to Jim, one of my popular faculties on iLearningGlobal.tv but I thought I have an obligation to pay it forward by sharing a summary with all of you ….

In this video, Jim talks about his love for playing the guitar, and taking his motorbike on a long mountain trek. You might wonder how do all these relate to personal development. It DOES! :-)

  • If you DON’T make time for things you love every day, then you will find less balance in your daily life, you will tend to feel the emptiness in life…
  • If you DO make time for things you love every day, you will find your life more fulfilling and enriching, more balanced…
  • It doesn’t matter how big or trival the things you love are, they are the TREASURES of YOUR LIFE!

Do remember, taking time to smell the roses is NOT wasting your time, it can help you to recharge and refocus.

Here’s wishing you a FABULOUS start to a new week. Keep in touch.

P.S.: If you are interested to find out more about continuous personal learning, please feel free to contact me offline via email: johnnyang@jangworld.com (NO obligations).

Warmest Regards.

Food for thought - Making Sales versus Making Customers

19th March 2009

Hi everyone,

Apologies for my online absence for the past few days. To cut a long story short, I’m now in Las Vegas to attend iLearningGlobal’s (iLG) World-wide Launch Conference this week. Alas, I was unable to enjoy the sights, sound & scenery. I’m still trying to recover from jet-lag (24-hour flight & a 15-hour time zone difference), made worse by a nasty flu.

Anyway, I was doing my daily (except for the past 2 days) iLG eLearning session where I came across an eLearning Video by Tony Alessandra, a famous trainer in sales. The video title was “Making Customers”. Tony was sharing his experience in his 1st full-time sales job while studying in college, way back in 1966. Guess what was his product? Cookware…..

I suddenly remember that, sometime ago, a few of our club members & guests had approached me to seek some advice on getting more sales. I don’t profess to be an expert in this area. However, after watching Tony’s video tonight, I think we need to think hard about the following:

  • You need to build the rapport and trust with your customer FIRST!
  • It’s important to encourage your customers to provide you with referrals after you had completed a deal with them. And make sure you really FOLLOW-UP!
  • Don’t let your customer feel that you SOLD them a product you want to sell. Instead, you need to help them feel that they BUY a solution from you that will solve a problem in their life.
  • Never overpromise and underdeliver
  • Focus on helping people to find a solution, rather then selling them a product.
  • Volunteer to provide information that is relevant to your customers, even if it results in a delayed or different purchase.

I’m not too sure if iLG had included this video in the complimentary preview section @ http://www.ilearningglobal.tv/video but, you are more than welcome to preview the other complimentary videos available.

To your sucesses. Warmest Regards.

Well Done, Team TMCS!

12th March 2009

Heros should never walk alone by themselves. And last night (11th March 2009), it was no exception.

Almost a dozen of us witness how Jose Kasijo and Ng Cher Khim stand up to the other outstanding competitors in their quest to represent Area D5 in our Division D contest on 04th April 2009.

And our heros did NOT disappoint us.

And we are pleased to announce the following results:

  • International Speech Contest: Jose Kasijo (2009 Champion of Area D5)
  • Table Topics Contest: Ng Cher Khim (1st Runner-up)

And now Jose has a greater challenge in front of him. He’ll represent Area D5 in the Division D contest. For those of you who had competed at the Division Level, you should know that this is truly a battle between the best of the best.

As our hero, Jose, forges ahead, can he count on Team TMCS to root for him on 4th April 2009?!

Are we ready and willing to prove that Singapore’s oldest and one of the BEST Toastmasters Club has what it takes to bring public speaking to the next level up?

Do we let our hero walk alone in his quest for excellence and glory for our club (Toastmasters Club of Singapore)? The answer should be a ‘NO’!

Time to bring the game to the next higher level, Team TMCS.

The game’s on and let get ready to rock and roll.

Warmest Regards.

Team TMCS, Time for you to ACT!

6th March 2009

Liverpool has it (never mind their flip-flopping performance in the EPL this year), ManU has it and even the local S-league has it too!

What am I bladdering about, some of you might wonder?

I am talking about the un-relating support from their supporters on any match-day. You hear them roar, your see them cheer, you feel their rousing emotions rooting for their home team.

Come, 11th March 2009, it is time for our club champions, Jose and Cher Khim to face off against the best that Area D5 has to offer. The winners will walk away with the honours of being the BEST of Area D5.

Not that our own heros don’t have what it takes to take their games to the next level. Well, I have trodded down that path before. It is a tough journey. It can be a lonely and harrowing experience, even for the brave & well-prepared. What our heros need is that extra edge over highly competent competitors.

That extra edge is YOU, my fellow club members!

YES! We need you to come out & SHOW our flag at the Combined Area D5 and D6 International Speech and Table Topics Contest at NTUC Centre, 1, Marina Boulevard, on Wednesday, 11th March 2009, 7pm. Put your money (ahem, I mean support) where your mouth is, where your hands will point skyward and where you feet will stomp on the floor. In support of our very own heros.

Yes, even heros can make wonders when they can see, when they can hear and when they can feel your unwavering support, right on the SPOT!

So Team TMCS, what are you waiting for? What’s holding you back? The winners will represent Area D5 in the national-level Division D contests. Don’t you ever want to earn the boasting rights that your Toastmasters Club is one of the BEST of the BEST? Some will say in Singapore, but others will say, one fine day (sooner rather than later), TMCS produces the best speakers (International Speech, Table Table Topics and we want BOTH!) in District 80 (Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong & Macau)

Aren’t you guys being too ambitious? Well, ever heard the saying, “Aims for the stars. And if you ever miss, at least you land on the moon!”? The Area D5 contest is a small step in our ultimate goal. We want to be the BEST in District 80!

And we need you to support our 2 heros on 11th March 2009! We have come so far; there’s no turning back now!

So, Team TMCS, are you READY to ROCK them up, all the way to the District 80 convention in May 2009?

Team TMCS, we shall never let our heros walk alone!

Se ya on 11th March 2009! Rock on!
